Stargazing
Relax
outside in the grass, under the night sky. All the stars shine brightly
at night, here in the country.
The full
moon shines brighter too, and the night sounds will lull you to sleep
after a long busy day. Spring and fall nights are just as pretty,
and you'll want to experience them as well. |

-- an article from USA Today,
dated January 5, 2001: |

USA
Today rated Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park as One
of the 10 Best Places to Soak Up Science. It is one of only
a handful of places where visitors can watch and interact with
real paleontologists at work. |
|
| |
"The
site is unique in that it features complete fossil skeletons
that are left in place for visitors to see. The Ashfall Fossil
Bed is a remarkable discovery that provides one of the most
complete images of the fauna of the prehistoric central continental
grasslands" states Dr. James Estes, Director of the University
of Nebraska State Museum. |
|
| |
Mike
Voorhies and his coworkers continue to gain knowledge of the
animals that roamed this grassland from the remarkable preservation
of the fossils at the Ashfall site. It is an exciting experience
for scientists and tourists. |
|
| |
In
fact, tourists from every state, province and dozens of foreign
countries have marveled at the display of prehistoric animal
remains every year since this one of a kind State Park opened
10 years ago. Todd Kirshenbaum of the Nebraska Tourism Office
says, "It's great that USA Today has recognized something that
we have known for many years here in Nebraska Ashfall Fossil
Beds is a treasure like no other." |
